Chair moulding is a classic, elegant and timeless element of decor. It is a common sight in older homes, especially dining rooms and living rooms.

The purpose of chair moulding is to protect the wall from damage, especially when chairs are positioned against it. It also divides the room and creates a sense of scale and proportion, as well as allowing you to add different elements to a room to create visual harmony from one end of the space to the other.

How to Install a Chair Rail Moulding:
First, calculate the lengths of your moulding by adding up each of the pieces' widths and then dividing that number by 12. Make a “+” mark at the corner of every rectangle (inside edge) to know where to nail it down later on. Using two 2-1/2-inch finishing nails, attach the trim to the wall, lining it up at the "+" marks. Repeat for each of the corners (regardless of whether it will hit a stud or not). Once you've attached all the trim, use a nail set to recess the nail heads to achieve a smooth finish.
